Playing Time 45 minutes
Category Exploration
Mechanic Hand Management

1. Theme
Santa Cruz is played in two independent rounds in which players build homes, churches and lighthouses on the island while also developing valuable resources.

Players each start with a hand of cards, comprising traveling cards and scoring cards. They then explore a board showing three islands, which have tiles laid face-down representing buildings and places, such as churches and lighthouses. On a turn, players must play either a traveling card to explore and place buildings in their color or play a scoring card to score a particular type of building, resource, or other game condition for all players. Spaces near the central volcano are more valuable, but are vulnerable to a negative eruption scoring card.

If that volcano does erupt, the magma might clear away the buildings already constructed. Bad luck? Well, use your experience from the first round to build better in the second. You won't make the same mistakes a second time, will you? Concentrate on the further colonization of Santa Cruz and score while you can!

2. Artworks
The artwork is quite good. Michael Menzel, the artist, also does the artwork for Stone Age, Cuba, Dragonheart, Atlantis, The Settlers of Catan, Turn & Thaxis, In The Year of The Dragon, The Pillars of the Earth, etc.

4. Game Play
The game is consisted of 2 rounds.
First round:
Every player gets random score cards (2 for 4 player, 3 for 3 player, 4 for 2 player).
Decide the first player. Set vp (1st player gets 0 vp, 2nd player gets 1 vp, 3rd player gets 2 vp, 4th player gets 3 vp).
From last player choose 1 from 4 set of action cards.
- 2 street, 2 river, 2 coast, 1 wildcard
- 4 street, 1 river, 1 coast, 1 wildcard
- 2 street, 3 river, 1 coast, 1 wildcard
- 2 street, 1 river, 3 coast, 1 wildcard
From first player set building 1 coast tiles as starting exploration point.
Each player their cards (Action or Score), one at a time. Score card affects all player.
Player can not put their building on the same spot as others except for the last person for the round (once).
Player immediately gets VP by the number on building tiles and takes 1 random bird token if there is blue symbol. VP on token will counted on last round.
Each player scores VP on each score card played if they fulfill the requirement of the card.
Game ends when all player used up all their cards. No player can pass his/her turn. Player can discard their card if it can not be used.
Second round:
Player sorted by the VP.
All player open their score card lined with their previous set action cards.
Each player gets 1 random score card.
From player with lowest VP choose 1 from 4 set of action cards.
Each player discards 1 score card.
From player with lowest VP play his/her card until they run out of cards like first round.
All player adds VP from their tokens.

NB : each wildcard can be used for 2 river or 2 street or 2 coast cards. immediately put 2 building at once.

My Opinion
My first glance of this game is a mixture between Mondo and Pantheon. If this is played with 2 player, things more easily predicted like stone age especially on the second round.
Simplicity : 5/5
Strategy : 3/5
Luck : 4/5
Replay : 3/5

Nice review, so.. what's your personal opinion bro? do you like the game very much?

as for me it seems the game looks really simple, and doesn't have much fiddly components, theme-wise somewhat doesn't really interest me since this is like another city-named-euro-generic-kind of boardgames :D but i'm a fan of michael menzel.. hmmm...
hahah masuk radar dulu dah

my opinion? i thought i already had it written there :|
overall it is a good game because it's simple and can be played under 1 hour :D
there is quite balanced comparison between strategical value and elements of luck.
